The Kinks é fodaço né? Da invasão britânica é uma das minhas preferidas. A versão de "Milk Cow Blues" daqui é uma pancada. Pena que eles foram pro saco. Esse é um EP deles lançado em 68 pro mercado suéco (será que tem a ver com aquele lance de 3º via? ehehe). Acho Ray Davies um talento que deveria ser mais reconhecido. Ou não, sei lá. Nazz - [1968] Nazz

Eu tava ouvindo Cherry Choke esses dias e tentando lembrar com quem eles se parecem. Lembrei! É com esse Nazz aqui. O tal do Todd Rundgren que era o guitarrista e tals. A banda americana mais inglesa dos anos 60, por acaso. O solo de "Back Of Your Mind" é absurdamente parecido com os do Clapton na época do Cream. Clássico lado b. Top 3: "Open My Eyes", "Back Of Your Mind", "She's Going Down". Pra quem gosta de: Cream, The Kinks, The Who, The Pretty Things e Cherry Choke.

I was listening to Cherry Choke last week and trying to find who they remind me. Well, I think is Todd Rundgren's Nazz. The most british-like american band of the 60's for sure. Esse cara é um dos meus bluesmen favoritos. Descobri ele naquele DVD Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus a uns anos atrás. A voz dele é muito legal e ele tem um ritmo diferente dos demais bluesmen da época, num sei explicar por que. Enfim, pra quem achava que o Ben Harper e o John Butler eram grandes coisas, o Taj bota eles no chinelo. Top 3: "Corinna", "She Caught The Katy (And Left Me A Mule To Ride)" e "Ain't That A Lot Of Love". Pra quem gosta de: Buddy Guy, Ottis Redding, Rolling Stones, B.B. King e Muddy Waters.

Taj Mahal is one of my favorite bluesmen. I've never heard about him 'till I watch Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus' DVD. What a voice! Lately, I found out that he is a very talented multi-instrumentist. And he's got a rithym that is so unique... I just don't know how to explain. Pra mim beira o impossível escolher meu disco favorito do Kinks. Então peguei um aleatóriamente pra colocar aqui. Kink Kontroversy começa muito bem com Milk Cow Blues e vai pra Ring The Bells que é a cara de Ruby Tuesday dos Stones. Daí pra frente é só clássicos. Como fã de Kinks, é difícil destacar os melhores momentos do disco, mas no fim das contas, eu fico com Where Have All The Good Times Gone que tem uma letra muito boa sobre confronto de gerações. Afinal, esse papo dos nossos pais de que a época deles era melhor é pura balela, certo? Clássico. Top 3: Milk Cow Blues, Where Have All The Good Times Gone e It's Too Late. It's almost impossible for me to choose a favourite record from The Kinks. So, I choose this one randonly. Kink Kontroversy starts with the greats Milk Cow Blues and Ring The Bells, that has a melody very similar to Ruby Tuesday from the Stones. From then, every single track is a classic. Is hard to choose a highlight, but Where Have All The Good Times Gone is my favorite. The lyrics about generation conflicts are one of their best. Fleetwood Mac - [1969] Then Play On

Não é o melhor disco da fase com o Peter Green (English Rose é o melhor disparado), mas tem duas das melhores músicas da banda: "Oh Well" e "Rattlesnake Shake". O disco tem um clima meio Santana em algumas músicas, graças a percussão presente em quase todas as faixas. Bom disco. Top 3: "Coming Your Way", "Oh Well" , "Rattlesnake Shake". Pra quem gosta de: Santana, ZZ Top, Savoy Brown, Free e Yardbirds.

Not the best release on the Peter Green's era (English Rose is the best, for sure), but it have two of the best songs from the band: "Oh Well" e "Rattlesnake Shake". The mood in this record is the kind of Santana's records, with a lot of percussions, wich appears in almost every track on the album. Good to know one of the best british blues bands in history. The Byrds - [1968] The Notorious Byrd Brothers

Não consigo achar os Byrds essa grande banda que tanto falam. Claro que eles foram muito importante para um genêro mas mesmo assim não me convencem. Tem músicas muito legais (Eight Miles High, My Back Pages, You Ain't Going Nowhere, Old Blue, etc...) mas nunca os achei uma banda maravilhosa como tantos dizem. Tanto que neste disco, a melhor musica não entrou na versão original, aparecendo somente como bonus track anos depois. Estou falando de "Triad" que é a musica que causou a saída do David Crosby da banda. Essa musica é uma das mais "safadas" que eu já ouvi, pois se trata de um convite do homem a sua parceira para formarem um menage a trois com mais num sei quem, o que num era lá um assunto muito facil de se tratar na época. Ele queria a musica no disco e o resto da banda não. Deu no que deu. Top 3: "Draft Morning" , "Get To You" , "Triad". Pra quem gosta de: Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, Grateful Dead, The Band e The Youngbloods.

I never thought about The Byrds as great band like most of the people think. I think they are a little bit overrated. Obviously they have a bunch of good songs, but nothing that impressed me. The best song in this record was not in the original release. "Triad", a composition from David Crosby, was discard because it talks about menage a trois, wich is a tabboo at the time. Not a fantastic record, but enjoyable. Top 3: "Draft Morning" , "Get To You" , "Triad". For Those Who Likes: Bob Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, Grateful Dead, The Band and The Youngbloods.

Buffalo Springfield - [1967] Buffalo Springfield Again

Acho que o Buffalo Springfield é um pouco esquecido pelo mundo do rock. Esse segundo disco deles é, na minha opinião, um dos melhores dos anos 60. Neil Young começava a colocar as manguinhas de fora e o Stephen Stills se consolidava como um grande compositor. Apesar do disco ser muito bom, ele ja mostrava o fim dos tempos pra banda, que viria um ano depois com o Last Time Around. Discasso! Top 3: "Mr. Soul" , "Hung Upside Down" , "Sad Memory". Pra quem gosta de: The Band, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, The Hollies e Big Star.

I think Buffalo Springfield deserves more recognizement from Rock N' Roll world Their second record is easily, in my humble opinion, one of the best from 60's. Here, Neil Young starts to show his talent and Stephen Stills consolidate his song writing. But this record was the beginning of the end, wich comes in Last Time Around one year after. Classic. Eric Clapton já era chamado de Deus antes de entrar para a banda do Godfather of British Blues, o Sr. John Mayall. Só que, convenhamos, antes dos Bluesbreakers o Clapton num fazia nada de absurdo nos Yardbirds. Só aqui nesse disco que eu acho que ele realmente mereceu o titulo. Engraçado como só de ouvir uma nota da guitarra, a gente sabe quem está tocando. Crááássico. Top 3: "All Your Love" , "Ramblin' On My Mind" , "Stepping Out". The Action - [1966] Rolled Gold

Com o sucesso dos Beatles, o George Martin foi correndo atrás de mais bandas de rock da época e acabou achando o The Action na cena mod inglesa. Arranjou um contrato com gravadora, gravação de um disco, showzinhos, tudo uma belezinha. Mas a banda acabou, sabe-se lá por que, não vingando. Teve seu sucesso restrito a mesma cena mod inglesa que os lançou e até hoje vive aparecendo em coletâneas mod por ai. Esse Rolled Gold é o disco que eles lançariam em 1966 mas que acabou sendo engavetado pela gravadora. O que é estranho por que acho que ele não perde nada pro Small Faces ou pro Who da época (pros Kinks perdem =P). Vale a ouvida. Top 3: "Come Around" , "Strange Roads" e "It Really Doesn't Matter" . Pra quem gosta de: Who, Creation, Small Faces, Kinks, Beatles e a cena mod em geral.

With the Beatles' success, George Martin runs to search another rock bands to sign with his own label. So, he found The Action playing in the mod scene and signed with them. But, for reasons that are still unknown, they disband with no big sucess in the top charts. "Rolled Gold" is the last breathe from the band that was put aside by the record label. Wich is very strange because I think that this record doesn't lost to anything that Small Faces or The Who made that time. It's a good choice, I think. Top 3: "Come Around" , "Strange Roads" e "It Really Doesn't Matter" . For those who likes: Who, Creation, Small Faces, Kinks, Beatles and Mod Scene from the 60's.

The Pretty Things - [1967] S.F. Sorrow

O Pretty Things era uma banda como um zilhão de outras na Inglaterra que faziam covers de bluesmens dos EUA e colocavam uma musiquinha própria ali e outra lá em seus discos. A diferença é que o Pretty Things era considerada pesada pra época, era um som mais "na cara" e tal. Influenciou um outro zilhão de bandas como o Bowie, o Stooges, o MC5, o Thee Hypnotics (breve aqui) e por ai vai. E tão na ativa até hoje de um modo muito respeitável. Enfim, eis que em 1967 a banda que era conhecida por fazer um rock n roll pra la de bão resolve dar uma de psicodélica e gravar um disco que é tido como o primeiro conceitual da história. Deve ser, sei lá. S.F. Sorrow foi gravado (também) no Abbey Road Studios e conta a história do tal de S.F. Sorrow (dã!). Eu num faço a minima idéia que história é essa, ehhehe, sem saco pra saber. A dupla Phil May (g e v) e Dick Taylor (g) escreveu as musicas que, sério, me dão medo, num sei por quê, ehehhe. Tipo, tava lendo Sandman esses dias e ouvindo no headphone. Fiquei com medo, ehheeh. Vale a "zovida". Da faixa 15 pra frente é tudo bonus track. Meu top 3: "S.F. Sorrow is Born" , "Ballon Burning" e "Baron Saturday". Pra quem gosta de: Beatles (Sgt Peppers), Rolling Stones (Their Satanic), Who (Sells Out), Pink Floyd (Piper...) e psicodelia em geral.
