No começo do mês eu fui no show do Heaven & Hell aqui em Belo Horizonte e tenho que dizer que não esperava tanto. PULTA QUE O PARIU! Como pode um homem de 67 anos cantar tudo isso? Eu já gostava dele, pra mim é um dos top 10 do metal, mas agora virei fã! E se alguém quer virar fã dele também, tem que começar ou pelo Heaven & Hell do Sabbath ou por esse aqui. O disco é tão bom que parece um greatest hits. É, o homi é o capeta! Top 3: "Holy Diver", "Don't Talk To Strangers" e "Straight To The Heart". Pra quem gosta de: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Deep Purple e Whitesnake.

In the beggining of this month, I went to a Heaven & Hell (Black Sabbath) concert here in Belo Horizonte and I have to say that I was'nt expect that much from this old man. But, HOLY SHIT (or diver...), this man sings like no one. Top singer for sure. And he is in his 67! This record is, together with Heaven & Hell, a good one to start to admire this great artist. It's so good that sometimes you think you're listen to a "greatest hits" collection. Hail Dio! Top 3: "Holy Diver", "Don't Talk To Strangers" and "Straight To The Heart". Ao lado da trilha sonora do Singles - Vida de Solteiro, essa é a minha trilha sonora preferida. Pegaram alguns dos maiores nomes do hip-hop americano da época e juntaram com as melhores bandas do momento. O resultado é perfeito. Todas, eu disse todas, as músicas são ótimas. Também, tinha que ser coisa dos anos 90 mesmo. Nenhuma outra geração poderia ter conseguido algo melhor. Together with Singles OST, this is my all time favorite movie soundtrack. This concept was not new at the time, but this kind of partnership never was so good like those in this album. Every single track is perfect. Of course, it was made in 90's, the best decade of music. No other generation could make it better. Esse é o clássico dos clássicos do Stoner Rock. Todo mundo esperava por esse disco antes de ele sair e todo mundo copiou depois. Referência de 11 em 10 bandas do tal Stoner Rock. Todas as faixas são perfeitas e, podem jogar as pedras, mas pra mim o verdadeiro baixista do Kyuss é o Scott Reeder e não o Nick Olivieri. Fácil fácil um dos meus 10 discos preferidos de todos os tempos. Ou não! Top 3: "Supa Scoop and Mighty Scoop", "100°" e "Conan Troutman". Pra quem gosta de: Queens Of The Stone Age, Nebula, Beaver, Monster Magnet e Masters Of Reality.

This is the classic of all classics! Stoner Rock never was the same after this record was released in 1994. Maybe one of the most copied albums of all time. Every single track is perfect. And I know that much of the fans think that Nick Olivieri is the greatest bassist that ever played for Kyuss, but for me, Scott Reeder is the real one. Anyway, this album is one of my all time favorite. Listen VERY VERY VERY LOUD! Top 3: "Supa Scoop and Mighty Scoop", "100°" and "Conan Troutman". Esse cara é um dos meus bluesmen favoritos. Descobri ele naquele DVD Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus a uns anos atrás. A voz dele é muito legal e ele tem um ritmo diferente dos demais bluesmen da época, num sei explicar por que. Enfim, pra quem achava que o Ben Harper e o John Butler eram grandes coisas, o Taj bota eles no chinelo. Top 3: "Corinna", "She Caught The Katy (And Left Me A Mule To Ride)" e "Ain't That A Lot Of Love". Pra quem gosta de: Buddy Guy, Ottis Redding, Rolling Stones, B.B. King e Muddy Waters.

Taj Mahal is one of my favorite bluesmen. I've never heard about him 'till I watch Rolling Stones Rock N' Roll Circus' DVD. What a voice! Lately, I found out that he is a very talented multi-instrumentist. And he's got a rithym that is so unique... I just don't know how to explain. Essa é a minha trilha sonora oficial para jogar Bejeweled 2, ehhehe. O que eu mais gosto nesse disco é o trabalho de guitarra do Brian "Robbo" Robertson. É diferente de tudo que o Motörhead já fez, tem um jeitão mais blues. Desagradou muitos fãs na época, mas é facinho um dos meus discos preferidos deles. This is my oficial soundtrack when I'm playing Bejeweled 2, hehe. The guitar work by Brian "Robbo" Robertson in this record is what that really atracts me in this album. It's different than anything that Motörhead ever did before or after it's release. I know that most of the fans were a little disappointed, but for me is one of their best records. I just love it. De todas aquelas bandas dos anos 80, o The The é uma das minhas favoritas, principalmente a fase com o Johnny Marr. "Dogs Of Lust" desse disco é maravilhosa, uma das minhas músicas preferidas de todos os tempos. Sei lá, ela tem um ritmo legal e tal. E eu imagino como ficaria se o Paul Weller fizesse uma cover dela. E atentem para as letras, Matt Johnson é um excelente letrista, eu acho. Enfim, aproveitem que esse é meio dificil de achar por ai. Top 3: "Love Is Stronger Than Death", "Dogs Of Lust" e "Bluer Than Midnight". Pra quem gosta de: The Cure, The Smiths, Paul Weller, Stone Roses e The Mission.

The The is one of my favorites bands from the 80's, specially when Johnny Marr was taking the guitar duties. "Dogs Of Lust" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Sometimes I think what if Paul Weller record this song, probably would sound great. And, for those that like good lyrics, Matt Johnson was a very great songwriter. Or still is, I dunno. Sepultura - [2006] Dante XXI

De longe, o melhor disco do "Sepa" com o Derrick Green nos vocais. Acho que alguns discos de metal sofrem com o problema de serem muito arrastados, demoram muito pra terminar. Mas esse é tão bom que você até lamenta que terminou. "Dark Wood Of Error" já começa matadora e muito legal pois o disco tem muitos altos e baixos, no bom sentido. Uma das melhores coisas do metal nos ultimos anos. Top 3: "Dark Wood Of Error", "Convicted In Life", "Burried Words". Pra quem gosta de: Mastodon, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Slayer e Machine Head.

By far, this is the best Sepultura's record with Derrick Green singing. Some heavy metal records are hard to listen because they are too long and seems like a never ending experience. But this not happen in this record. "Dark Wood Of Error" opens the record destroying everything and when you notice, you are listen to "Burried Words" in a blink of an eye. One of the best metal records released in 2000's. Top 3: "Dark Wood Of Error", "Convicted In Life", "Burried Words". For those who likes: Mastodon, Megadeth, Nuclear Assault, Slayer e Machine Head.

Depois de 12 tentativas (!!!), finalmente eu consegui subir esse album, que é um clássico por sinal. Pra mim o Rory dava um cacete no SRV e em muitos outros brancos metidos a blueseiros. Calma, calma, eu adoro SRV, só que o Gallagher era um capeta tocando. O Irish Tour prova que ele era muito mais guitarrista do que qualquer americano da época. Enfim, altamente recomendado esse aqui. O cara fazia estrago na Strato dele hein?! Top 3: "Do You Read Me?", "Country Mile" e "Calling Card". Pra quem gosta de: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple.

After 12 attempts in different host sites, finally I brought to you all this fantastic masterpiece by Mr. Gallager. Well, in my humble opinion, Rory could beat SRV anytime he wants. Of course that I love SRV and other white american guitar players, but Gallagher put something different in the way that we all play blues nowadays. Queens Of The Stone Age / Beaver - [1998] The Split CD

Esse split é da época que o Queens Of The Stone Age não era tão famoso assim. Vale por "The Bronze", ja que a outra faixa é instrumental. Quanto ao Beaver, eles eram uma boa banda da Holanda que permanece na geladeira desde 2002. Mas eles tem pegada, qualquer dos outros discos deles são altamente recomendados. Pra quem gosta de: Dozer, Kyuss, Truckfighters, Nebula e Orange Goblin.

This split record was released when QOTSA was not so famous yet. But "The Bronze" makes it worth. Beaver was a good band from Netherlands that is on hiatus since 2002. All the records by both bands are highly recomended. For those who likes: Dozer, Kyuss, Truckfighters, Nebula and Orange Goblin.

Pretty Things - [1964] Get The Picture?

Pretty Things é muito legal, uma das bandas mais legais e injustiçadas da Inglaterra. Influência direta de bandas como Stooges, Thee Hypnotics e Mudhoney. Se ainda não conhece, vale a pena conferir. Esse é pra mim o melhor disco deles (melhor até que o S.F. Sorrow). Top 3: "Buzz The Jerk", "Midnight To Six Man" e "LSD". Pra quem gosta de: Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Stooges, Thee Hypnotics e Mudhoney.

North Mississippi Allstars - [2003] Polaris

O novo disco do Mudhoney é muito bom! Mas que isso tem a ver com o North Mississippi Allstars? Absolutamente NADA! Enfim, o NMA é tipo um Allman Brothers Band moderno, só que esse Polaris eu achei meio sem pegada. Porém, "Be So Glad" tem um rap no meio que ficou bem legal . O problema é que as musicas ora parecem demais com Jayhawks ("One To Grow On"), ora com o Tom Petty ("Kids These Daze"). A minha preferida é "Meet Me In The City" que me lembra um pouco o Steve Miller, sei lá por que. Enfim, disco legalzinho. Top 3: "Meet Me In The City", "Polaris" e "Be So Glad". Pra quem gosta de: Allman Brothers Band, Drive-by Truckers, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty e Jayhawks.

North Mississippi Allstars always sound like a modern day version of Allman Brothers Band. But this record, Polaris, i think is missing a more punch sound. Anyway, "Be So Glad" is very interesting, mainly because the rap in the middle of the song. Sometimes I think that they are trying to sound like The Jayhawks ("One To Grow On") or Tom Petty ("Kids These Daze"). But is a good record anyway. Top 3: "Meet Me In The City", "Polaris" and "Be So Glad". For those who likes : Allman Brothers Band, Drive-by Truckers, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty and Jayhawks.

Metallica - [2008] Death Magnetic

Se você esteve em coma nos ultimos 30 anos, você vai achar esse disco o máximo! Uma pérola do metal, um clássico. Mas se você, assim como eu, já ouviu o que foi feito pelo Metallica nos anos aureos da década de 80 e comecinho de 90, esse disco é um saco. Eu tenho horror a essa coisa de "volta as raízes" que algumas bandas tem. Sempre acaba soando embaraçoso, fraco e bem falso o som. E esse Death Magnetic num foge a regra. É uma tentativa tão descarada de soar como ...And Justice que até irrita. Até a capa é branca!! O chato é que o disco começa e... NÃO ACABA NUNCA!!! Meu Deus do Metal! Que que é isso?! A graça de uma banda com tantos anos são as mudanças que acontecem (Rush, Rolling Stones) ou não (Motörhead, AC/DC) no som através do tempo. Agora essa coisa de desenvolver e forçar uma volta as raízes é um pé no saco e raramente é convicente. Tanto que a música mais legal do disco, "Broken, Beat & Scarred", tem um jeitão de Metallica moderno. Outras que merecem uma menção honrosa são "That Was Just Your Life" e "Cyanide" por que o resto é tão forçado, principalmente "The Day That Never Comes", que até irrita. A diferença desse pro St. Anger é que o primeiro era ruim e esse é ruim com melhor polimento. Pena. Que chovam as pedras. Top3: "That Was Just Your Life", "Broken, Beat & Scarred" e "Cyanide". Pra quem gosta de: viver no passado.

If you were in coma in the last 30 years, this record will sound like a real gem to your ears. A classic one! But if you already listen to the great job that Metallica made in the 80's and beginning of 90's, you're goin' to disappoint yourself. I hate this "back to roots" thing that some bands are doing. It always sounds false and unnecessary to me. And this Death Magnetic make me feel this way. They are trying too much to sound like they did in ...And Justice For All. The only song that really catchs me is "Broken, Beat & Scarred" because is the only one that sound fresh and not too forced. St. Anger was a bad idea, of course, but this one is just another bad idea with a better production. Shame on you Metallica. Top3: "That Was Just Your Life", "Broken, Beat & Scarred" and "Cyanide". For those who likes: to living in the past.

Leaf Hound - [1971] Growers Of Mushroom

Tenho ouvido bastante esse Leaf Hound. A primeira vez que eu ouvi tem uns duzentos anos, mas não ouvia fazia um bom tempo. Só lembrei deles por que tava ouvindo o "The Great Divide" do Unida e eles tocam "Stray" que está nesse mesmo disco. Então eu lembrei deles e resolvi ouvir de novo. Ainda acho bem bom, só que o Peter French irrita um pouco as vezes por que ele imita demais o estilo do Plant. Mas é bom mesmo assim. Top 3: "Freelance Fiend", "Work My Body", "Stray". Pra quem gosta de: Cactus, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple e Lucifer's Friend.

Pra mim beira o impossível escolher meu disco favorito do Kinks. Então peguei um aleatóriamente pra colocar aqui. Kink Kontroversy começa muito bem com Milk Cow Blues e vai pra Ring The Bells que é a cara de Ruby Tuesday dos Stones. Daí pra frente é só clássicos. Como fã de Kinks, é difícil destacar os melhores momentos do disco, mas no fim das contas, eu fico com Where Have All The Good Times Gone que tem uma letra muito boa sobre confronto de gerações. Afinal, esse papo dos nossos pais de que a época deles era melhor é pura balela, certo? Clássico. Top 3: Milk Cow Blues, Where Have All The Good Times Gone e It's Too Late. Pra quem gosta de: The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Pretty Things e The Small Faces.

It's almost impossible for me to choose a favourite record from The Kinks. So, I choose this one randonly. Kink Kontroversy starts with the greats Milk Cow Blues and Ring The Bells, that has a melody very similar to Ruby Tuesday from the Stones. From then, every single track is a classic. Jerry Cantrell - [1998] Boggy Depot

Esse blog está ficando muito importante. Imperador romano, rei inglês... até a tavola redonda apareceu por aqui ultimamente. Mas enfim, pra quem sabe que blog não é uma coisa para ser levada tão a sério assim, to subindo esse bom disco do Jerry Cantrell. Parece que agora ele solta algo com o Alice In Chains. Tem gente que reclama por que o Layne num tá na banda e tals e que isso é um desrespeito com ele, mas acho que enquanto ele ficar com essa idéia de ficar morto, fica díficil ele voltar pra banda, hehee. Tem que tomar cuidado com o que se fala. Daqui a pouco o Jerry Cantrell aparece nos coments me xingando e tals (xingando é com "X"???). Mas quanto ao disco, muito legal. Um pouco longo, eu num sou chegado a coisas que levam mais de 50 minutos. Passou disso eu já acho que fica complicado. Mas enfim, ele é muito talentoso, gosto da atmosfera das músicas. Sei lá, acho doidão. A voz dele enjoa um pouco as vezes, mas é bom de qualquer maneira. Que doidera... em quase um ano de blog, isso aqui foi mais comentado em 4 dias do que em todo resto. Então é isso, ouçam o Jerry e divirtam-se. E lembrem-se, conheçam a história do rock! Entrem pra faculdade! Top 3: "My Song" , "Settling Down" e "Jesus Hands". First solo record from Jerry Cantrell. Very good indeed. All the tracks has some kind of atmosphere that is the trademark by Mr. Cantrell. Sometimes his voice is kind of boring, but is good at all.
