Acho que sou a unica pessoa do mundo que acha o vocal do Lee Dorrian bom, eheheh. Num é um Dio ou um Eric Wagner, mas ele é bom sim. Quer dizer, eu não canto como ele, infelizmente. Cathedral é uma banda que eu tenho curtido mais e mais nos ultimos tempos principalmente pela mudança do som através da carreira. Essa é a graça de bandas como os Stones, o Rush, o Clutch e o Cathedral. São bandas que você sabe que quando sair um disco novo, vai existir algo realmente novo nas músicas. Nem sempre as apostas dão certo, mas é um risco, admirável por sinal, que se corre. Por acaso, a trinca "Ride", "Enter The Worms" e "Midnight Mountain" é fantástica. Discasso!

Maybe I'm the only person in the world that think that Lee Dorrian's vocals are very good. Well, he's not Dio or Eric Wagner, but he's cool. The thing that i like most in Cathedral sound are the changes that you find in every new record. You never know what you're going to listen. It's like Clutch or Rush or even the Stones. There's always something different, not necessarily good, but different, new. Anyway, pay attention to the flawless sequence in "Ride", "Enter The Worms" and "Midnight Mountain". Fantastic, isn't it? What a record!

Clutch - [1993] Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anedoctes and Undeniable Thruths

Quanto mais eu ouço, mais eu gosto de Clutch. Pra falar a verdade, eu não conheço toda a discografia da banda, só ouvi até agora 4 discos (Esse, o ultimo, Jam Room e BlastTyrant). Mas é que eu curto tanto esses quatro que quero esgotá-los antes de partir pros outros. "El Jefe Speaks" tem um dos melhores riffs com wah da história. E como mudou a voz do Neil Fallon com o tempo hein. Era ótima e continua ótima. Clássico!

The more I listen, the more I love Clutch. Being honest, I'm not familiar with their entire catalogue. I just listen repeatedely to this one, the last one, Jam Room and Blast Tyrant. The thing is that I love these four so much that I want to dig them a little more before pay atention to the rest of their work. One thing at a time. "El Jefe Speaks" is one of the best wah-riffs that I've ever listen to. Just classic

Primeiro single do Solace, lançado a algum tempo já. Gostei muito. Não é meu primeiro contato com a banda mas é a primeira vez que presto atenção. Stoner mais puxado pra metal mesmo. Tenho escutado mais singles e EPs do que albuns ultimamente. Acho que é essa correria de final de ano que num deixa a gente prestar atenção nas coisas. Bom, esse é pra ouvir alto! Pra quem gosta de Monster Magnet, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Pantera e Solarized.

Raging Slab - [1992] Freeburden

Rick Rubin é um idiota. Quase toda banda que ele mexe, ele estraga. Tá certo que ele tem um trabalho bom com o Slayer e com o Johnny Cash, mas de resto... só cagada. Raging Slab é um exemplo. Alguém me explica o que tem de errado com esse disco pra ele não ser lançado, por favor. Só que o "produtor das estrelas" acho que não era bom o suficiente e mandou engavetar. Ah, pelamordedeus né! Enfim, gosto de todas nesse aqui, principalmente "Anywhere But Here", "Human Cannoball", "It's My Eyes" (que parece muitisisisisisimo com Black Crowes) e "Run Down Sun". Discasso. Pra quem gosta de: The Black Crowes, Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hounds, Five Horse Johnson, Lynyrd Skynyrd e Nashville Pussy. Eu acho que peguei esse disco no "Estranho Mundo de Mary"... não lembro. Bom, o Lennon fez 70 anos esses dias e pra comemorar fica essa homenagem. Algumas coisas legais nesse disco e outras nem tanto (Sponge, Super 8, Blues Traveler, Flaming Lips). Destaque pra versão do Red Hot Chili Peppers para "I Found Out" que ficou com um jeitão meio Hendrix. As versões do Screaming Trees, Mad Season, Cheap Trick e do The Magnificent Bastards são muito legais. E por incrivel que pareça, a versão de "Steel And Glass" do Candlebox ficou beeeem legal. Can't remember where I grab this single, but I think that was in Ritual Room. Anyway, Behind The Smile reminds me a lot of She's So Fine from Jimi Hendrix Experience. The Hydromatics - [1999] Parts Unknown

Sei lá como isso vei parar na minha mão, só sei que é muito, muito bom. É tipo Hellacopters, mas mais legal. Por acaso, tem o Nick Royale na bateria e produção, mas a graça mesmo é o Scott Morgan nos vocais/guitarra. O cara é fera mesmo. Eu ouço muita gente falar de Stooges, MC5, Sonic Rendezevous Band mas eu num acho tudo isso não. Mas esse Morgan, que foi da Rendezevous é fodão mesmo. A versão de "Baby Won't Ya" do MC5 é fodona, mas não tão legal quanto a original. Muito divertido, vale conferir. Top 3: "Earthy", "No Justice (In Rock 'N' Roll) e "Baby Won't Ya". Pra quem gosta de: The Hellacopters, Sonic Rendezevous Band, MC5, Thunder Express e Nitwitz.

Don't know how this came into my hands, but it's good. Very, very good. Like Hellacopters, but maybe even better. Well, Nick Royale play drums and do the production duties in this one, but the main thing, what really shines in this record is guitar/vocal Scott Morgan. He's a pro, definitely. I'm not a huge fan of MC5, Stooges and Sonic Rendezevous sound, but this album is flawless. The cover of MC5's "Baby Won't Ya" is great, almost like the original. Great record, good to listen at anytime. Top 3: "Earthy", "No Justice (In Rock 'N' Roll) and "Baby Won't Ya". Pra quem gosta de: The Hellacopters, Sonic Rendezevous Band, MC5, Thunder Express and Nitwitz.

Meus queridinhos, tchuchucos, amorzinhos do tio acabaram infelizmente. "Ah, mas Oasis é cópia dos Beatles e eles são ranzinzas"... aaaahh, vai procurar tua turma rapá! Se você não gosta do todo-poderoso Noel Gallagher, o que você faz nesse blog? Suma daqui, canalha! Enfim, apesar de triste pelo fim da banda, to muito curioso pra saber como um se sai sem o outro. Nebula & Lowrider - [1999] Split

O Nebula acho que todo mundo já conhece e o que eles apresentam aqui é o som comum deles. Guitarras e mais guitarras. Ótimo como sempre. O Lowrider que pra mim é a novidade (e pode ser pra muitos de vocês também). Que banda!! Assim, o som é bem chupinhado do Kyuss, mas isso é uma coisa boa não é? E as vezes, tem coisas que me lembram o Soundgarden. Enfim, essa banda sueca lançou esse EP com o Nebula e mais disco e fechou as portas. Mas um dos integrantes tá no Greenleaf, que é uma espécie de All-Star Team do Stoner Rock sueco. Tem gente do Dozer, do Truckfighters e do Lowrider aqui. EP de alta qualidade esse aqui. Pra quem gosta de: Dozer, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Beaver e Solarized.

Well, everybody knows how Nebula is good so the real deal here is swedish band Lowrider. They are some kind of Kyuss sons, but this is a good thing. Unfortunately, they disband after the release of "Ode To Io", their another and only register after this EP. I know that Greenleaf has one of Lowrider members but I don't which one. Great EP, Great Split. For those who likes Dozer, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Beaver and Solarized.

Bom, primeiro vou agradecer os comentários do Haroldo. Cara, você é sempre muito bem e que bom que você gostou do blog! Qualquer pedido, sugestão e reclamação sua é bem vinda. E se for do seu interesse, dá uma visitada no meu outro blog, o Brazilian Waxxx, só tem rock nacional. E os blogs dos camaradas aqui do lado são muito bons também.

Enfim... Brad é um projeto paralelo do Stone Gossard do Pearl Jam. Como eu num sou muito chegado a ficar dando dados biograficos (usem a wikipedia!) vamos falar da musica. Muito boa por sinal e sei lá por que "Buttercup" me lembra Legião Urbana. Acho que "Vento no Litoral" pra ser mais específico. Num sei se o som vai agradar quem gosta de Pearl Jam, principalmente por causa da proeminência dos teclados sobre as guitarras, mas eu acho uma banda bem legal, mais próxima do que o Jeff Buckley fazia talvez. Aliás, o que aconteceu com o PJ hein?! Que coisa horrivel esses dois ultimos discos. Enfim, Top 3: "Buttercup" , "Good News" e "Down". Brad is a side project by Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam fame. Great band a sometimes they reminds me Legião Urbana (one of the greatest brazilian bands of all time), specially "Buttercup". Guitars aren't all over the place here. Keyboards are the mains instrument, leading the most of the tracks, which maybe is disliking thing to Pearl Jam fans. Anyway, what's happening to Pearl Jam these days? Geezz, their last two records are something to feel ashamed. Anyway, enjoy this real gem from the 90's. Top 3: "Buttercup" , "Good News" and "Down". For those who likes: Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, Unified Theory, Legião Urbana and Pigeonhead.

Skin Yard - [1991] 1000 Smiling Knuckles

Jack Endino, o padrinho dos grunges, toca guitarra nesse disco. Engraçado é que as bandas que ele produziu fizeram mais sucesso do que o próprio trabalho. O som é tipo uma mistura do que o Soundgarden fazia nos anos 80 com o que o Monster Magnet fez no começo dos 90. A propósito, Ben McMillan, vocalista da banda que depois montou o Gruntruck, faleceu no ano passado. Pena, era um ótimo vocalista. Top 3: "Words On Bone", "Living Pool" e "Psychoriflepowerhypnotized". Pra quem gosta de: Soundgarden, Monster Magnet, Screaming Trees, Gruntruck e Mudhoney.

Jack Endino, the godfather of grunge, plays guitar in this great band called Skin Yard. Funny that his production dutties are more sucessful than his work with Skin Yard. But Skin Yard was great, like somethin between Ultramega OK-era Soundgarden and Monster Magnet. Unfortunately, Ben McMillan died of diabetes in 2008. Top 3: "Words On Bone", "Living Pool" e "Psychoriflepowerhypnotized". For those who likes: Soundgarden, Monster Magnet, Screaming Trees, Gruntruck and Mudhoney.

Bom, só conheço esse disco dessa banda americana que pra mim soa como uma mistura meio doida de Megadeth, Nirvana, NIN, Van Halen, Rock Inglês, Helmet, Faith No More e Black Flag (!!!) Cada hora parece uma coisa diferente pra mim então sei lá né. "Postcoital Glow" tem uma guitarrinha meio Dave Mustaine, sei lá. Mas que é bom é bom, então, ouçam bem alto! Top 3: "Cold Water", "Postcoital Glow" e "Happy Snakes". Pra quem gosta de: Nirvana, Faith No More, Helmet, Black Flag e NIN.

Well, this is the only album I have ever heard from this band and, don't know why, it sounds like a car crash between Megadeth, Nirvana, NIN, Van Halen, Rock Inglês, Helmet, Faith No More e Black Flag (!!!) or something like that. Beaver - [1999] Lodge

Nem só de Leite Moça vive a Holanda hein?! Beaver é de lá, mas já acabou infelizmente. Enfim, o que eu acho que difere um Solarized (meia boca) pra um Monster Magnet (ótimo!!!) e um sHEAVY (meia boca também) pra um Clutch (ótima!!!) na maioria das vezes é o vocal. E o Beaver é mais ou menos por aí. O instrumental, apesar de ótimo, não é a coisa mais original do mundo, mas eu acho o vocal do Roel Schoenmakers um diferencial que vale a pena dar uma atenção mais especial pra banda. Som pesado e pra frentex! Top 3: "Static", "Tarmac" e "Interstate". Pra quem gosta de: Kyuss, Soundgarden, Dozer, Black Sabbath e Tummler.

Dutch band Beaver unfortunately end somewhere in the 2000's but, why not to remember then? Singer Roel Schoenmakers is the differencial between Beaver and most of the stoner rock bands around. What a talented vocalist! Lodge is my favorite Beaver's album and one of the best in the genre. Top 3: "Static", "Tarmac" and "Interstate". For those who likes: Kyuss, Soundgarden, Dozer, Black Sabbath and Tummler.

Slo Burn - [1996] Amusing The Amazing

Mais um trabalho do Sr. Garcia. Slo Burn foi a primeira banda pós-Kyuss do vocalista mas só durou um ep, este "Amusing The Amazing". Ainda tinha muito de Kyuss no som, mas já começava a mostrar um som mais direto similar ao do Unida e do Hermano. Enfim, outro ótimo disco de John Garcia, como de costume. Top 3: "The Prizefighter", "Pilot The Dune" e "Positiva". Pra quem gosta de: Kyuss, Hermano, Unida, Monster Magnet e Truckfighters.

Another good work by Mr. Garcia, Slo Burn was his first band after Kyuss but they only released this EP. It's has a lot o Kyuss in their sounding, but Garcia starts to approach a more straight ahead sound like he did with Unida and Hermano. Anyway, another awesome job by John Garcia, as usual. Top 3: "The Prizefighter", "Pilot The Dune" and "Positiva". For those who likes: Kyuss, Hermano, Unida, Monster Magnet and Truckfighters.

Bom, num tem muito o que dizer desse disco. Do começo ao fim ele ótimo. Talvez o clássico do Monster Magnet. Só "Space Lord" e "Bummer" já valem o disco todo. Top 3: "Space Lord", "Bummer" e "See You In Hell". Pra quem gosta de: Nebula, Atomic Bitchwax, Mudhoney, Unida e Hermano.
